Pa. man faces trial after $1.50 taken from church

BELLEFONTE — A Pennsylvania man faces trial for allegedly stealing $1.50 in change from a church collection jar.

Police say 31-year-old Jason Stover broke into the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in State College earlier this month and swiped six quarters from a jar set up for charitable donations.

Stover waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges including burglary, criminal trespass and institutional vandalism.

The Centre Daily Times reports the church installed a security camera after a series of break-ins starting in September.

Investigators say Stover was identified as the culprit after being captured on camera during the Nov. 15 burglary.

Stover is free on bail. Court records don’t list an attorney for him and a phone listing couldn’t immediately be located.
