SOMERSET — A borough council in western Pennsylvania has voted unanimously to hire police officers for the local school district.
The Daily American of Somerset reports that the Somerset Borough Council voted Monday to pay officers $32 per hour.
Last December a Somerset high school student was suspended after compiling a "hit list" of 48 students he wanted to hurt.
Police Chief Randy Cox says an officer would be in the school eight hours a day, five days a week for a total of 176 days a year. The cost for one year would be about $45,000.
Local officials hope to find grants to help pay the cost.
The Somerset school board plans to vote on the proposal next month.
