PHILADELPHIA — Police say two men made off with tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry in a smash-and-grab robbery at a Philadelphia mall.
Surveillance footage shows two masked men using a sledgehammer to break into a display case at the Diamond Depot jewelry store at Franklin Mills mall on Sunday.
Store owner Ron Alia says the robbers were choosy in what they took, leaving less expensive watches while taking big-ticket items. He says the stolen jewelry was worth about $90,000.
Authorities say a mall security guard pursued the men but they escaped to a silver minivan and fled.
Alia said a similar heist happened at another branch of the store before Christmas.
