Man gets prison time for killing girlfriend, duct-taping her face

NEW CASTLE — A western Pennsylvania man will spend 10 to 20 years in prison for strangling his girlfriend and then duct-taping her face so he wouldn’t have to look at her afterward.

Twenty-four-year-old Keith Wolfrey, of Ellwood City, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to charges of third-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in the May 22, 2011, killing of his live-in girlfriend, 20-year-old Joie Lordi.

Authorities have said the defendant told police that he argued with the victim while moving out and put his hands around her throat but remembers little else – though he did acknowledge covering the dead woman’s face with duct tape before he went to bed. He says he was awakened the next morning by the couple’s 6-month-old baby.

Wolfrey will receive credit for nearly 600 days he’s already been jailed.
