EPA to release sample results of fracking study

PITTSBURGH — Federal environmental regulators say they’ll release preliminary results from water sampling at sites in Pennsylvania and across the nation as part of their study of the potential impact of fracking.

Jeanne Briskin, the Environmental Protection Agency’s hydraulic fracturing research coordinator, said that sampling results have been analyzed and will be posted on the EPA website within weeks, according a report in The Times-Tribune of Scranton. The agency’s final report won’t be released until 2014.

Fracking is the process used by drilling companies to obtain oil and gas from deep shale formations.
