UPDATE 5:49 p.m. | State trooper on patrol dies in crash

SOUTH BEAVER — A Pennsylvania state trooper died after a crash Thursday with a tractor-trailer in western Pennsylvania while he was on patrol, authorities said.

Trooper Blake T. Coble, 47, was on patrol just after 10 a.m. when the crash occurred on State Road 168 and Blackhawk Road in South Beaver, authorities said.

The site is about 40 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, near the state line with Ohio. Police had no further details on the accident.

Coble had been a trooper since 1988 and was stationed with Troop D in Beaver; his wife is a communications operator there. They have two children.

"His untimely death left two children without a father and a wife without her husband, plus countless friends and family members grieving," State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said in a statement. "He died serving the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police mourn his loss and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends."

Coble was the 94th member of the state police to die in the line of duty, Noonan said.

Gov. Tom Corbett ordered that all state flags in the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg and at commonwealth facilities in Beaver County to fly at half-staff in Coble's honor until his interment.
