ELKTON, Md. —
The Cecil County Sheriff's Office says a 10-year-old struck apparently by a bullet from celebratory gunfire has died.
Deputies say Aaliyah Destiny Boyer of Manheim, Pa., died Thursday the A. I. Dupont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Del., where she was taken after the incident early Tuesday.
Officers said witnesses reported several people were outside watching fireworks when the child collapsed. Residents said numerous gunshots were heard in the area at the start of the new year. Officials say a trauma injury was observed at the top of the girl's head.
Police say an autopsy will be conducted and the investigation into the incident is continuing.

Officials: Teen admits making school threats
DOYLESTOWN — Authorities say a suburban Philadelphia teen has admitted threatening to shoot students and staff at his high school a week after the elementary school massacre in Connecticut.
The Bucks County Courier Times reported Thursday that the unidentified 14-year-old remains at a juvenile det ention center. He is scheduled for sentencing later this month.
The ninth-grader was taken into custody Dec. 20 after students at Council Rock South High School alleged he made threatening statements. Police found two guns on his nightstand.
The district attorney's office says the teen admitted during a juvenile court hearing last week to charges of terroristic threats and possession of a firearm by a minor.
His mother also faces charges in case. Her lawyer says she had no knowledge of the threats.

Coroner: Fire victim will take days to ID
BIG BEAVER — A coroner says it will take days to confirm the identity of a badly burned body in a western Pennsylvania house fire, though authorities believe it to be that of the woman who lived there based on information from witnesses and her live-in boyfriend who is being treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
As a result, Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi isn't releasing the presumed name of the victim in the fire early Thursday in Big Beaver, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
The fire was reported about 2 a.m. and crews found the badly burned body shortly after they arrived.
The man who escaped has been taken a Pittsburgh hospital.
A state police fire marshal has been trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Ex-lawmaker gets prison after assault, DUI
ALLENTOWN — A former Pennsylvania state lawmaker has been sentenced to at least three months in prison following his arrest for assaulting his wife and driving drunk.
Former Democratic Rep. Joseph Brennan was arrested in August after police say he punched and choked his wife at their Fountain Hill home, then drove away drunk. It was his second DUI arrest in as many years.
Brennan dropped his re-election bid and pleaded guilty to simple assault and drunken driving. He was sentenced Thursday in Lehigh County Court in Allentown.
Brennan pleaded with the judge for home confinement, saying a prison term would jeopardize his new job. The judge rejected his request and ordered him to report to Lehigh County Prison on Monday to begin a three- to 23-month sentence.

Ex-priest charged with 1981 sex abuse of child
OCEAN CITY, Md. — Ocean City Police say a former Pennsylvania priest has been charged with sexually abusing a male child at a resort motel in 1981.
Seventy-year-old Bruno Michael Tucci of Salisbury was charged last month with fourth-degree sex offense and child abuse: custodian. Police announced the charges on Wednesday.
Officers say the now-grown man reported the alleged abuse in November.
Police say Tucci was priest in Allentown, Pa., from 1971 to 2007. A spokesman for the Allentown Diocese tells WBAL Radio that Tucci was removed from ministry in 2002 because of past allegations of abuse of minor. Tucci was defrocked in 2007.
