Man killed by machine at Jefferson County wood products shop

BROOKVILLE — A coroner says a man has died after being pinned in a machine that removes bark from lumber at a Jefferson County shop that makes green hardwood lumber.

Terry Stockdale, the chief executive officer of Brookville Wood Products, says the company is grieving over the loss of 33-year-old Brian Gardner, of Reynoldsville, who was injured near the end of his shift operating a machine that takes the rough edges off lumber.

Gardner was injured about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday at the plant in Pinecreek Township and died about two hours later at Brookville Hospital.

The coroner says Gardner suffered trauma injuries to his head, neck, chest and right arm.

Stockdale says Gardner had worked for the company for three years and operated the edger for about two years.

The plant has about 65 employees.
