VIDEO | Quaker Steak & Lube revs up for grand opening with free wings, beer

JOHNSTOWN — It has garage doors above its entrance. There’s an upside-down ‘76 Corvette suspended from the ceiling - and walls dressed in hot rod decor to remind of its service station roots.

But management at Quaker Steak & Lube say its their award-winning wings, ribs and other food - and daily promotions - that will keep visitors hungry for more at their newly-opened Richland Township eatery.

The Sharon-based chain officially opens its University Park Plaza garage doors to the public at 3 p.m. Wednesday. It’s the first Quaker Steak within nearly 70 miles of Johnstown.

The restaurant features a U-shaped, 28-seat bar, rows of LCD TVs - including one built into the floor - and, a wide-ranging menu of bar and grill-type food, including steaks, salads, appetizers - and of course, buffalo-style and boneless wings tossed in nearly two dozen sauces.

Pete Haas, the restaurant’s general manager, said visitors will quickly finds there’s something going on at “The Lube” every day of the week.

“We’re community-driven,” he said. “People have been ready for us - and we’re ready for them.”

Food and drink specials are a daily draw. All-you can eat wings are $11.99 on Tuesdays, Haas noted. Saturday is karaoke and “college” night and there’s a free nacho bar Wednesday nights, he said, while a waiter in a bright red protective “toxic” mask and suit offered super-hot “Atomic” wings to brave guests at a Monday night V.I.P. opening.

“It’s just a lot of fun here,” said Eva Dobransky of Mineral Point. “It’s high-energy. The food is good. It would make a great place for a date night.”

Nearby, patrons were sitting at an outdoor patio connected to the restaurant’s bar, sipping colorful mixed drinks.

“This place is going to be a big hit with the college kids,” said Linda Brandle of Bon Air. “It’ll do well in Johnstown.”
