Officials: Murder suspect found dead in cell

STROUDSBURG — Authorities say an eastern Pennsylvania man charged with his mother's death was found dead in his prison cell after apparently committing suicide.

Monroe County Coroner Bob Allen told The Pocono Record that 21-year-old Christopher Strachn was pronounced dead at 2:42 a.m. Sunday.

Allen says he apparently used bed sheets tied to the steel frame of his bed to strangle himself in the cell, in which he was alone.

District Attorney E. David Christine Jr. told the paper that state police are reviewing video surveillance tapes but "it appears to clearly have been a suicide."

Strachn was charged in the choking and stabbing death of 53-year-old Adrienne Strachn in their Polk Township home in June.

State police said he told them he was being treated for mental health issues.
