A Johnstown man was jailed Thursday after police said they found him driving around with a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen.
Upper Yoder Township police seized the weapon during a routine traffic stop Dec. 28 on Goucher Street. Police said the 9mm Ruger was one of three weapons stolen from a Brownstown home in September.
Dashawn Lee Keith, 24, of the 400 block of Mars Street, was charged with receiving stolen property, firearms not to be carried without a license and a traffic violation.
In a criminal complaint, police said they found two passengers and two handguns after they stopped a Mercury Mountaineer driven by Keith.
The loaded Ruger was reported by West Hills Regional police as stolen.
The other gun was registered to the wife of one of the passengers.
Police said Keith told them he had bought the Ruger three days earlier from someone who he didn’t know.
Keith was arraigned Thursday by District Judge John Barron of Upper Yoder Township and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $25,000 bond.

Gas theft
EBENSBURG – An Indiana County motorist was arraigned Thursday on charges that he siphoned fuel from a lawn mower after his car ran out of gas.
Mark Andrew Palovich, 42, of Clymer was picked up on an arrest warrant. State police in Ebensburg said they had connected Palovich with two burglaries on Aug. 22 in Blacklick Township.
A resident had reported someone entered her shed on Expedite Road and stole with a five-gallon gas can and gas from a riding lawn mower.
Another shed on Church Street also was entered but nothing was taken, troopers said.
Palovich told authorities that after his vehicle ran out of gas on Cardiff Road he knocked on two doors but no one was home. He checked one shed but found nothing useful. Palovich entered a second shed through a window and siphoned gas into a gas can. He also took a toolbox, troopers said.
Palovich was charged with two counts each of burglary and criminal trespass and one count each theft and criminal mischief.
He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Charity Nileski and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $20,000 bond.
Homicide
TORRANCE – State police are searching for a suspected drug dealer now charged with killing a man who allegedly tried to rob him in a Westmoreland County mobile home.
Ronell Lamar Moses Jr., 20, of Penn Hills, Allegheny County, is wanted on criminal homicide and other charges filed by troopers in Greensburg. Moses is charged with killing Matthew Volk, 24, of West Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, on Saturday.
Police allege that Volk arrived to rob Moses at a mobile home in Derry Township where Moses was staying with a couple who knew Volk. That couple and Volk’s girlfriend, who police said drove him to the scene, are charged with conspiring in the robbery because police allege they knew Volk intended to rob Moses. Their complicity led to Volk’s death, police allege.
