TIPTON —
A Tyrone man was taken into custody Monday after he crashed his car into a post office during a police chase.
State police in Hollidaysburg said the 25-year-old man, whose name was not released Monday, took off in his vehicle while they were responding to an alleged domestic violence incident in the community of Tipton.
The crash caused “severe damage” to the post office building, police said. And a call to the office Monday went unanswered.
The suspect fled on foot from the post office and was caught in a patch of woods along railroad tracks near the town, police added.
The Tyrone man is currently on state parole, which police said is now revoked. An arraignment on simple assault, criminal mischief, unauthorized use of an automobile and driving under the influence charges is currently pending.
