5 things to know for today in Pennsylvania news

Your look at late-breaking news, upcoming events and stories that will be talked about in Pennsylvania on Thursday:

1. SANDUSKY BACK IN COURTROOM AS LAWYERS TRY TO CONVINCE JUDGE THEY DIDN’T HAVE SUFFICIENT TIME TO PREPARE DEFENSE

The former Penn State assistant football coach continues to deny molesting several boys, including some in the school’s football training facility. Sandusky is serving at least 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of 45 counts in June.

2. PERSON FAMILIAR WITH EAGLES COACHING SEARCH SAYS NOTRE DAME’S BRIAN KELLY WAS INTERVIEWED ON TUESDAY

Kelly’s Fighting Irish were shellacked, 42-14, by Alabama in the national title game the night before. It’s not clear if he fared any better in his interview to replace the fired Andy Reid. The Eagles have interviewed six candidates and plan to meet with four more.

3. SON OF FORMER PHILLY POLICE COMMISSIONER ONE OF FOUR CHARGED WITH STEALING 22 HOMES

Steven Johnson – a former transit police lieutenant — is the son of Philadelphia police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson, who retired in 2008. The district attorney’s office says Steven Johnson conspired with the others to forge documents to transfer unoccupied houses from their rightful owners before selling them.

4. TREASURER ROB MCCORD CONTINUING TO BUCK GOV. TOM CORBETT’S DEAL WITH BRITISH FIRM TO PRIVATIZE PENNSYLVANIA LOTTERY

McCord says Corbett has failed to sufficiently detail Camelot Global Services’ plans to expand lottery gambling, and he questions whether the British company has the legal authority to expand the lottery to include video-based games like keno in bars and restaurants.

5. RETIRED PENNSYLVANIA COLLEGE PROFESSOR TO FACE LIFE IN PRISON FOR EXPLOITING CHILDREN WITH HELP FROM WOMAN IN OKLAHOMA

That’s where a judge has sentenced Gary Doby, of Bloomsburg, to prison for receiving photos of children dancing in their underwear.
