PITTSBURGH MAYOR MAY REVEAL FUTURE PLANS, EXPLAIN RECENT ABSENCES FROM PUBLIC EVENTS

Speculation about Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s future has been stoked by an aide’s Wednesday night comment that the mayor would make an announcement soon about “personal issues.” State Democratic Party chairman Jim Burn says he “fully expects” Ravenstahl will not seek re-election.

THREE DOWN, THREE TO GO: THIRD PERSON CONVICTED IN WESTERN PA. WOMAN’S TORTURE MURDER GETS DEATH PENALTY FROM JURY.

Last night’s verdict against 26-year-old Ricky Smyrnes leaves two people on death row and one more serving a life sentence for the death of 30-year-old Jennifer Daugherty more than three years ago. Three more suspects face trial later this year.

ONE DEAD IN PHILLY DRIVE-BY SHOOTING OUTSIDE RAPPER’S BUS FOLLOWING SHOW

City police haven’t identified the victim, but say they don’t believe rapper French Montana or his entourage were targeted. Police say a car drove up and someone fired shots into a crowd gathered around the performer’s bus shortly after a show at the Theater of Living Arts.

SAD FAREWELL SET FOR SLAIN FEDERAL PRISON GUARD AS INVESTIGATION INTO HIS STABBING CONTINUES

The FBI and federal corrections officials have yet to name or charge the inmate suspected of fatally stabbing guard Eric Williams on Monday night at the Canaan penitentiary in Waymart. A public viewing is set for this afternoon at Greater Nanticoke Area High School.

EASTERN SPORTS AND OUTDOOR SHOW DELAYED OVER ASSAULT WEAPONS CONTROVERSY HAS NOW BEEN CANCELED

The Feb. 2 show at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg was postponed after organizers banned assault weapons in the wake of a Connecticut school shooting. That led to a vendor boycott and now farm complex officials say the show won’t be held at all this year.
