GRAND JURY FINDS MOTORISTS AREN’T ONLY ONES WHO PAY TOLLS TO ‘RIDE’ ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE

The investigation has charged former state Sen. Robert Mellow, three former top turnpike commission officials and others in a “pay-to-play” scheme in which vendors allegedly gave gifts and political contributions to improve their chances of landing turnpike contracts.

THE SUN MAY NOT COME OUT TOMORROW FOR DADDY WARBUCKS

The Penn-Delco School District in suburban Philadelphia is holding an expulsion hearing today for a student who played Daddy Warbucks in the school musical "Annie" before he got into an altercation with the director and was suspended from school. The student’s family says he was wrong, but shouldn’t be expelled after serving two 10-day suspensions.

According to information The Associated Press obtained in a right-to-know request, the suspended jurist stands to lose a possible $140,000-a-year pension due to her conviction on campaign corruption charges. The judge who will sentence her on May 7 has also asked attorneys to address whether he should order her removed from office, too.

CONSOL ENERGY CREWS DRILLING HOLES TO MONITOR, POUR WATER ON UNDERGROUND COAL MINE FIRE ON PENNSYLVANIA-WEST VIRGINIA BORDER

More than 120 miners were safely evacuated when smoke first started billowing from the Blacksville No. 2 mine on Tuesday. Since then, Consol workers and officials with the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration have been working to pinpoint and extinguish the fire.
