PHILADELPHIA ABORTION DOCTOR GOES ON TRIAL IN DEATHS OF WOMAN, 7 BABIES AT ‘HOUSE OF HORRORS’
Three years after drug agents stumbled upon a gruesome medical clinic in West Philadelphia, abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell is going on trial on eight counts of murder. Jury selection is set to start Monday in the death penalty case. Opening statements are scheduled for March 14.
UNITED WAY HANDING OUT $5 MILLION IN FUNDS DONATED FOR SUPERSTORM SANDY RELIEF
Child-care centers, soup kitchens and a volunteer fire association are among the recipients of $5 million in Superstorm Sandy relief announced by the United Way of New York City. The funds collected from donors after Sandy struck on Oct. 29 will go to communities in seven states – Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
PHILLY-AREA BOY, 12, TAKEN OFF LIFE SUPPORT WEEKS AFTER SUFFERING INJURIES IN FIGHT AT SCHOOL
A Philadelphia-area boy has been taken off life support weeks after suffering injuries in a fight at school. WPVI-TV reports family members say Bailey O’Neill died Sunday morning, a day after he turned 12. That was several weeks after the sixth-grader suffered a concussion, broken nose and other injuries in a fight at school on Jan. 10. Authorities are investigating.
POLICE: NAKED MAN SWIMS ASHORE, IS ARRESTED IN YORK COUNTY AFTER CHASE ENDS WITH CAR IN RIVER
Police in York County say a naked man swam ashore and was arrested after a high-speed police chase that ended up with the stolen vehicle in the Susquehanna River. Authorities say 23-year-old Edgewood, Md., resident Raymond David Kallenberger was driving a stolen minivan missing a tire. Authorities say they tried to pull him over around 10:15 a.m. Sunday after a report of an erratic driver.

While opponents of fracking are pleased at a report that Gov. Andrew Cuomo will wait for a Pennsylvania health study before deciding whether to allow drilling, landowners are preparing to sue New York over lost gas-leasing opportunities and an industry group warned Sunday that a business exodus from the state will worsen.
