HARRISBURG — Car pins worker against building

A construction worker received severe injuries Monday when he was struck and pinned against a building by a driverless vehicle when the operator of the vehicle accidentally bumped the remote-control starter.

Richland Township police said they were at the First Commonwealth Bank, 1001 Scalp Ave., investigating what turned out to be a false alarm when the accident took place.

The worker was carrying tools for a bank project when the parked vehicle started up, lunged forward and pinned him against the building, police said.

Police said they administered first aid to the worker until medical personnel from East Hills Ambulance and members of Richland Fire Department arrived. The worker was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.

The accident took place around 4:50 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.

Man charged in Windber thefts

WINDBER – Paint Township police believe they have found the man responsible for a string of burglaries in Windber.

Derek Brandon Clark, 25, of the 500 block of 13th Street in Windber, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

Police said Clark allegedly stole more than $600 in electronic equipment from a vehicle parked on Cambria Avenue on Oct. 6.

Clark was identified from a surveillance video, police said.

Police found Clark walking on Somerset Avenue and took him into custody on an unrelated warrant. He later admitted to the theft, and police recovered stolen items. Clark told police he had been drinking at the time.

Clark will answer the charges before Senior Judge Joseph Cannoni of Windber.

Anyone with information on the crimes may contact police at 467-8444.

Motorcyclist injured in crash

URSINA – An Olean, N.Y., man was flown to Memorial Medical Center with significant injuries late Sunday after crashing his motorcycle on Route 281 in Upper Turkeyfoot Township, police said.

John Dahlgren, 49, was heading southbound and swerved to avoid a deer, which caused him to lose control of his motorcycle, Trooper Shawn Reynolds said.

Dahlgren was wearing a helmet, police said.
